Few Interesting Facts about Vehicle Tracking Systems

September 1st, 2011 admin

Car theft has always been a major form of street crime. Every day hundreds of thousands of cars are stolen all around the globe that there is a whole market of stolen cars that exist in every country. This would not have existed had car owners pondered over beefing up the overall safety of their cars.  Now that technology has grown this big, more vehicle safety systems are coming up; there are both manual and system based techniques to save your car from being stolen. One of such automatic systems is the vehicle tracking systems.

Designed to be a wholly self functioning electronic device, it uses appropriate software installed in the vehicle that helps a third party track the location of the vehicle even if the vehicle is miles apart. The system comprises of an electronic device which is controlled by software; this is very much the basic form of vehicle tracking devices. The software allows the device to transmit data, to allow vehicle tracking, and real time reporting happens every time an event occurs say for instance the doors opening, ignition, etc, or in real time.

The vehicle tracking software is used not only to transmit data, but in the case of a theft, it is used to take control over the car. In some trackers, when a car is stolen, the control of the car is taken over by the tracking company. This allows them to perform certain tasks, from their own console. These tasks could include, turning the engine off, permanently locking the door and the windows. Control on the headlights and tail lights is also an option, as this could help in getting attention of traffic control authorities. Unfortunately, there are devices being developed that could jam the vehicle tracking systems, rendering them completely useless; this allows the thief to steal the car as soon as the jammer starts working. The jammer basically stops the tracking software from transmitting or receiving the data. Because of that, the tracker company could not control the car, as the link between the car and the controlling console i.e. the software, is broken.

As a counteracting means, new technology is being utilized in order to make the vehicle tracking devices more fool proof. There are devices being developed with trackers who could prevent the software from getting jammed. These devices themselves are jammers, but they only produce malfunctioning in the thief’s jamming device. Many vehicle tracking devices come with a built-in link to the tracking company’s station, which could be accessed via a microphone installed in the car as well as your mobile. All of this is being done to try and eliminate this crime permanently.
